What does the qualification cover?
This qualification encourages an understanding of the knowledge and the skills needed to care for young children. It covers children’s growth, learning and development. There are also units to help with self-development.
This qualification shares units with the Entry Level 3 in Caring for a Child/Children qualification and the Level 1 Personal and Social Development qualification.
What is a nested qualification?
This qualification is nested. Qualifications within a nested suite allow learners to be topped up to a qualification that is the same level and subject within the Award, Certificate, Diploma structure.

This qualification is suitable for you if you are considering a career in caring for children. It could also support you with re-engaging with learning and break down barriers to you entering the childcare workforce.
What are the entry requirements?
You should be at least 14 years old.
How many credits are required to complete it?
The Certificate requires 26 credits. Credits from the Award can be carried over to the Certificate, and from the Certificate to the Diploma.
How is it assessed?
The qualification will be assessed by your tutor or assessor using a range of methods. This could include tasks such as designing charts or leaflets, coursework or methods such as oral questioning.
Do you need to be working to take the qualification?
No, as this is a knowledge only qualification.
How long does it take to complete?
You can usually complete the Certificate in a year or less.
